The flat plate collectors are the older, simpler technology and for a lot of buildings they still make sense. An FPC solar water heater absorbs sunlight across the full panel surface, performs reliably in strong direct sun, and lasts fifteen years or more with almost no maintenance. There is no glass tube to crack. The honest tradeoff is that on cold early mornings and through heavy overcast, a flat plate solar water heater warms more slowly than an evacuated tube system. At this capacity that matters more, not less, because a slow morning start means the last few people get nothing.
The tank is built heavy rather than coated. Galvanised iron at 3.5 mm thickness, more than twice the thickness of Anu's glass-lined ETC tanks, with a sacrificial anode rod fitted to fight hard water up to 600 ppm. The anode rod corrodes so the tank does not, and it can be replaced during servicing. The outer tank is galvanised and powder coated.
One thing to be straight about: 600 ppm is the ceiling. If your borewell water runs harder than that, and much of India's does, Anu's 500 LPD glass-lined ETC is rated to 2000 ppm and will outlast this tank. Three things to confirm before ordering. Your terrace needs at least 9 feet by 13 feet of clear, unshaded space, and four flat plate panels take a serious footprint, considerably more than the ETC system at the same capacity, so measure it properly rather than estimating. Your overhead tank or Sintex must sit at least 6 feet above terrace level. And confirm you do not have a booster pump. An electrical backup coil is available separately for cloudy stretches.
